Thursday, July 19: SP Challenge Halftime Celebration: Ribbon Awards and Trivia at the Zoo

Location: Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, 7370 Baker Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 (Education Complex, Lecture Hall)

Time: 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Overview:

Come celebrate, meet new colleagues, and be inspired by what participants have already achieved as the 2018 Sustainable Pittsburgh Challenge reaches “halftime” on July 30.  Learn how the 2018 Challengers’ actions are adding up to real impacts for a more sustainable future.  Then, challenge your knowledge as the SP Challenge team leads a fast-paced sustainability trivia game for the chance to earn bragging rights and prizes.  The evening will conclude with special recognition for the organizations that have earned Achievement Ribbons during the first half of the competition.

Thursday, August 16: Engaging Employees and Community for Lasting Change

Location: Energy Innovation Center, 1435 Bedford Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 (Room 115)

Time: 8:30 am - 11:30 am

Preliminary Overview:

Many sustainability initiatives require team effort, whether among employees within your organization, or as a broader community.  Join Sustainable Pittsburgh for this workshop to uncover how other organizations have successfully engaged employees to reduce waste, improve commuter impacts, reduce energy and water consumption, and more.  Learn how to incorporate sustainability principles into existing employee engagement initiatives, and how organizations can benefit through collaboration.  Then, join the SP Challenge team in a few fun engagement activities that you can use in your own organization.

Preliminary Overview:

The Pittsburgh region is surrounded by an abundance of water, a resource growing increasingly scarce in other parts of the United States.  Waterways, lakes and streams create tranquil spaces to enjoy the outdoors and provide abundant drinking water sources.  Yet, the region’s aging water infrastructure has raised deep concerns about water quality, both for recreational purposes, and for daily consumption.  Join this workshop to learn how multiple stakeholders are working together to protect and repair Pittsburgh’s water resources.

Finale and Awards Celebration

The competition ends January 31, 2019, after which the Sustainable Pittsburgh Challenge team will be evaluating the results of the competition.  Results will be announced in March 2019 during the program's Finale and Awards Celebration.  Check back as the competition proceeds for more details, or subscribe to the SP Challenge Newsletter.
